- You may remove your eye pad at between four to twenyy four hours. If you feel your eyelid blinking underneath the pad then you should remove the pad at that time. When the pad is removed there may be some blood staining or a small blood clot which may be cleaned away with some cotton wool and boiled water.
- It is normal for your tears to be pink or blood tinged for the first day or two after surgery.
- The effect of the local anaesthetic will wear off in 1-2 hours. If you have discomfort take one or two Paracetamol tablets every 4 to 6 hours as needed. You should avoid Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Warfarin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medication.
- You may take a shower. Be careful not to rub your operated eyelid for the first two to three days to avoid bleeding.
- Place a small amount of the antibiotic ointment you were prescribed on the wound and in the eye for lubrication for 2-4 times daily as instructed for 5-10 days.
- You may return to work 24 hours after your surgery.
- Do not rub your eye and do not apply heat. You should avoid wearing contact lenses or swimming for two weeks after surgery.
- Stitches are normally removed one or two weeks after surgery, as instructed. Sometimes self dissolving stitches are used which do not need to be removed.
Use of the homeopathic medication, ARNICA 30x, is believed to aid healing and reduce bruising. We are happy for you to use this 4 times daily for 5 days after the surgery if you wish.
